Protecting wild salmon from the risks of open-net salmon farming
Open-net salmon farming poses serious risk to wild salmon populations by spreading parasites and disease. Several studies have shown parasites from farms can threaten wild salmon populations, but the industry is still looking to expand on our coast.
Watershed Watch has been working to protect wild salmon from open-net salmon farms for over 15 years. We collaborate with academics, First Nations, and NGOs to highlight the scientific risks of this industry, and engage with the public and both the provincial and federal government on improving industry management and the protection of wild salmon.
