Media coverage of the threat heavily fishing sockeye poses to endangered salmon stocks
Last week, Watershed Watch, SkeenaWild and Raincoast issued a media release and backgrounder highlighting the threat that DFO’s latest fishing plans pose to endangered salmon stocks, such as Interior Fraser coho. Although sockeye returns are predicted to be large this fall, there are 44 distinct populations of Fraser sockeye, and while many of them will have a strong return, several sockeye stocks, and others, like Interior Fraser coho, are endangered and will be caught as bycatch in mixed stock fisheries.
The following are highlights of the media coverage of this important issue.
