Alaskan salmon processors today announced their intent to abandon the Marine Stewardship Council eco-certification.  The Cordonva Times article Marine Stewardship Council losing ground with wild salmon fisheries provides further information on this breaking news.

This comes only days after BC conservationists announced their intent to oppose MSC re-certification of several “unsustainable” Alaskan salmon fisheries.  See the Vancouver Sun article Alaskan practices threaten B.C. wild salmon: conservationists and the recent media release Canadian Conservationists Challenge “Unsustainable” Alaskan Salmon Fisheries issued by Watershed Watch, Raincoast Conservation Foundation and SkeenaWild Conservation Trust.
