PDF: Brief to Special Committee on Sustainable Aquaculture: Sea Lice and the Cycle of Resource Management Pathology

Summary:

This report by Craig Orr, Watershed Watch Executive Director and Chair of the Science Team of the Coastal Alliance for Aquaculture Reform presented to the Special Committee on Sustainable Aquaculture focuses on sea lice and the cycle of resource management pathology. The main goal of the briefing report is to give the committee a glimpse of what is actually occurring on Broughton Archipelago salmon farms with respect to sea louse production. Specifically, it shows: (1) estimates of louse production from all Marine Harvest farmed salmon in 2003 and 2004, and (2) weekly sea lice counts made by the Coastal Alliance for Aquaculture Reform and Marine Harvest Canada at two Broughton Archipelago farms in 2006.
