Wild Salmon in Trouble Video

A new Watershed Watch animation illustrates the sea lice threat from salmon farms and helps bridge the gap between technical science and understandable outreach geared towards the non-expert. The animated video Wild Salmon in Trouble depicts the salmon life cycle and shows how salmon farms provide an abundant source of potential sea lice hosts in essential spring nursery areas for wild juvenile salmon. The animation is about 6 minutes long, based on published, peer-reviewed scientific research and foreshadows an unknown future for coastal ecosystems and communities if something isn’t done to protect wild salmon from farm derived sea lice.

The animation is hosted on the Watershed Watch Salmon Society website at www.watershed-watch.org/sealice.html which also provides background information on sea lice and salmon farming, as well as simple things the public can do to help wild salmon. Watershed Watch produced the animation in conjunction with the Coastal Alliance for Aquaculture Reform and with additional support from the Patrick Hodgson Family Foundation.
